Highlights: -This weeks spelling practice is a review of the last three weeks. The students can be tested on any of the 30 words they have practiced. - Learning about tally mark charts and how to ask a good question for a survey. We also are learning how to find the perimeter of flat shapes. -Learning about the strength of different shapes used for beams. -Continuing to practice for the Winter Celebration. -Created a beautiful "Winter in a Bottle" art piece that you will see at conferences! -Learning basic algebraic equations. -Students have been working on adding punctuation to create dialogue in various sentences.  -Creating a jersey to demonstrate their understanding of Alberta regions. Reminders: -Conferences open at 4:00pm on Thursday, November 28. -Conferences on December 5 & 6 -Winter Celebration on Tuesday, December 10 -Holiday lunch on December 13 -Last day before break is December 19 -First day back after the break is January 7

Highlights: - Beginning to play Tchoukball in Phys.Ed. If you have never heard of tchoukball, here's a video showing the game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkHGO3pLMlE -Learning contour lines and sketching techniques while drawing pumpkins. Thank-you to everyone who donated pumpkins for us to use. - Reviewing how to add 3 and 4 digit numbers. Students are practicing different methods of addition, and discussing which methods are most efficient. -Working on “Show Not Tell” when writing about emotions. For example, instead of writing, “she was happy,” we discussed how we could describe how she looked and acted instead. -Continuing to practice cursive writing. -Beginning to explore our Metis Museokit from the Glenbow Museum. Students discussed what an artifact is and how we care for them. We also looked at how to sketch in detail when looking at various artifacts. -Students brainstormed different variables that could be changed when planting seeds...

Swimming Details

September 23, 2019 Room 5 begins swimming tomorrow, Sept. 24 and continues Wednesday and Thursday of this week, and Monday-Wednesday of next week. Here are some things to remember: - Students need to bring their swimming suit and towel in a waterproof bag. If your child chooses to wear their suit under their clothes in the morning, remind them to bring a change of underwear. :)  Students may bring small goggles, if they have them. - Jewelry is not permitted in the pool. Long hair should be tied back or put in a cap. - We leave the school ~9:20 for our 10:00 lesson. The lesson ends at 10:40, so we should be back at the school around 11:00. - Thank-you to everyone who is volunteering for swimming! If you have not yet paid for your swimming please submit it online or send in cash or a cheque. Please be at the school a few minutes before 9:20. When we arrive at the pool, you can assist the students in the change room, and then sit in one of the observation areas until the students...
