Long A Spelling Practice Resource

Hi Parents! This week we will be working on "Long A" spelling patterns. I have attached a really great resource down below to practice these at home. If you click on the little icons below each pattern there are online games that your child can do. This is optional, but for those students who need a little extra practice with spelling might benefit from doing this at home. https://www.spellzone.com/unit07/page2.cfm

Highlights: Finishing our Alberta mural.  Introducing our STEM challenge. Each student has chosen one method of seed dispersal and will build a model of it next week. Students are encouraged to bring in recyclables that could be used for their model. Continuing to examine and revise skeleton sentences. We also worked on "show not tell" when writing about emotions. For example, instead of writing, "she was happy," we discussed how we could describe how she looked and acted instead. Focusing on identifying long and short vowels during spelling. Practicing cursive writing Explored numbers further by completing a Place Value Park and played a game called "The Last Number Standing".  Reminders: Continue to read every night and practice addition and subtraction facts at home. If you are able to donate a small pumpkin (the tiny decorative ones are fine) for art next week, please let me know! No school on Monday.

Reminders

Reminders: Homework: Continue to read every night at home. Students should be able to quickly and accurately recall addition facts to 18, and the related subtraction facts. If your child needs additional practice at home and you would like some suggestions of different ways of practicing the facts, please contact me. We will begin adding and subtracting larger numbers soon, and the quick recall of facts allows students to be more proficient in calculations and apply them to problem solving situations. Picture Day on Tuesday. Students are dismissed at noon on Thursday, Oct.10. There is no school on Friday, Oct.11 (PD day) and Monday, Oct.14 (Thanksgiving.) Watch for info coming soon about volunteer opportunities this year.
