Seeds for Science

Hello parents! If you are outside this weekend/week with your child, please look for seeds to bring in to class next week. Students can look for seeds in the wild or in their yards. We are looking for a wide variety of seeds, so they can also bring in seeds from fruit/vegetables in the kitchen or from seed packets. Please label the seeds in a bag, if you know what type of seeds they are. We will collect the seeds all next week to use during science for our Plant unit this month. Thank-you for your help!

Highlights from the First Week of School!  Getting to know each other through activities, group work and games! We welcome all the families who are new to AFS! Playing math games and reviewing number concepts, such as place value, estimation and even/odd numbers. Writing letters to share more about ourselves. We also read the book "How I Spent My Summer Vacation" and talked about the fiction and non-fiction elements of the book. We began planning our own stories based on the book. Starting our class read-aloud novel, "My Father's Dragon." We created name tags using "Roman" font and these will be displayed when you come for conferences.  Creating "footprint" art and discussing line, negative space and warm colours. Students completed a Reading Interest Survey to tell me a few things about them as a reader. We discussed how we feel when we read, what kind of topics they enjoy reading, if they like any series of books etc.  Reminde
