If you are able to volunteer for this, please write in your child's agenda.

-No school February 13, 14 and 17 (Family Day long weekend)

Highlights:

-Practicing multi-digit subtraction through various strategies such as, using the number line, decomposing and algorithm. Please continue to practice addition and subtraction quick facts at home.

-Started our Book Club groups. Students will read twice a week in their groups and complete various tasks to go with what they are reading. Some weeks I may ask them to read a chapter or two at home and come to school ready to discuss it with their group.

-Started exploring different story beginnings. We looked at four techniques authors use to hook a reader - Action, dialogue, thought/question and sound. We will be working on this throughout the coming weeks.

-Looking at how to write a summary using the format - Somebody, Wanted, But, So, Then. Ask your child about this!

-We will be continuing our bridge unit throughout the rest of the year. Students were given a type of bridge failure to look such as, floods, fires, architectural errors etc. They looked at why these failures occur and how it could possibly be prevented in the future.

-We started our Light and Shadow unit by doing a scavenger hunt around the school to look for transparent, translucent and opaque objects.

-In Social Studies, we are finishing up looking at endangered species in Alberta. Students looked at what regions their animal lives in, what habitat they thrive in, what we are doing to ensure they don't go extinct etc.
