Reminders: Homework: Continue to read every night at home. Students should be able to quickly and accurately recall addition facts to 18, and the related subtraction facts. If your child needs additional practice at home and you would like some suggestions of different ways of practicing the facts, please contact me. We will begin adding and subtracting larger numbers soon, and the quick recall of facts allows students to be more proficient in calculations and apply them to problem solving situations. Picture Day on Tuesday. Students are dismissed at noon on Thursday, Oct.10. There is no school on Friday, Oct.11 (PD day) and Monday, Oct.14 (Thanksgiving.) Watch for info coming soon about volunteer opportunities this year.

Highlights: -Continuing to write entertaining story beginnings. Students wrote a beginning using a Literacy Shed video. -Students explored different First Nations oral stories and created a video to share what they learned. We will begin looking at pictographs and Writing on Stone next week. -Students are continuing to work in their book club groups. They are completing summaries on what they have read, discussing the setting and recording words they don't know and finding the definition. -Discussing the difference between natural and artificial light and chose a type of light source to research next week. -Completed a whole school word problem using the question "How many beads do you think you could fit in your hand?" Highlights: Reviewing what good writers do and beginning to write a short story to assess writing skills. Reviewing addition and subtraction strategies. Practicing these skills with different card games.  Examining botanical paintings and creating our own paintings of plants. Beginning to explore the different parts of a flower and their functions.  Reminders: Return the folder of forms that were sent home this week. Terry Fox Run on Friday 27 at 10:30am. Swimming forms due Tuesday. We still need a number of volunteers for the 25, 30, 1, 2. We will leave the school at 9:20 am for our 10:00-10:40 lesson, and return to the school around 11:00.
