Highlights: Finishing our Alberta mural. Introducing our STEM challenge. Each student has chosen one method of seed dispersal and will build a model of it next week. Students are encouraged to bring in recyclables that could be used for their model. Continuing to examine and revise skeleton sentences. We also worked on "show not tell" when writing about emotions. For example, instead of writing, "she was happy," we discussed how we could describe how she looked and acted instead. Focusing on identifying long and short vowels during spelling. Practicing cursive writing Explored numbers further by completing a Place Value Park and played a game called "The Last Number Standing". Reminders: Continue to read every night and practice addition and subtraction facts at home. If you are able to donate a small pumpkin (the tiny decorative ones are fine) for art next week, please let me know! No school on Monday.
Highlights: Reviewing what good writers do and beginning to write a short story to assess writing skills. Reviewing addition and subtraction strategies. Practicing these skills with different card games. Examining botanical paintings and creating our own paintings of plants. Beginning to explore the different parts of a flower and their functions. Reminders: New spelling words went home in the agenda. Every week, the students will record 10 words from their writing journals that I have corrected and will practice them at home. They will be tested on the words on Wednesdays. After every three weeks, the fourth week will be a review of the words from the previous three weeks. The first test will be next Wednesday, Nov 13. Please contact me if you have any questions. Remembrance Assembly on Friday at 10:30 am. All students will receive a poppy, and can bring money to donate to the Poppy Campaign, if they wish.
