Highlights -Students explored the Canadian Pacific Railway ‘Museokit’ from the Glenbow Museum. They had the opportunity to sketch and interact with artifacts such as a traditional miners cap, a conductor's hat, handheld lantern, and much more.   -Continuing to practice our multiplication quick facts through solving various word problems. As well as developing our understanding of 2 digit by 1 digit multiplication by exploring different strategies such as distributive property and algorithm.  -Discovered how shadows change throughout the day in relation to the position of the sun.  -Students took pictures around the school and created quotes to represent different ways we can be kind and thoughtful towards each other. This was shared through an imovie at the Sharing Assembly. Reminders: -Walking field trip to Good Companions on Monday, February 10, 2020. Please send your child with $2.00 to cover the snack that will be provided. Thank you to those who offered to volunteer. -Valentines Exchange: We will be exchanging valentines with each other on Wednesday, February 12. There will be a class list going home with the students on Monday. If you choose to send valentines, please make sure there is enough for the entire class. Materials Needed

Happy Wednesday everyone! Our class will be starting an art project next week and we are in need of a few items. Anything you are able to contribute would be greatly appreciated. -Yarn (Any color, except brown and black) -Cardboard that can be easily cut into different shapes -Glue sticks for hot glue gun Thanks for your help with this.

Highlights: -Continuing to write entertaining story beginnings. Students wrote a beginning using a Literacy Shed video. -Students explored different First Nations oral stories and created a video to share what they learned. We will begin looking at pictographs and Writing on Stone next week. -Students are continuing to work in their book club groups. They are completing summaries on what they have read, discussing the setting and recording words they don't know and finding the definition. -Discussing the difference between natural and artificial light and chose a type of light source to research next week. -Completed a whole school word problem using the question "How many beads do you think you could fit in your hand?" Reminders: -Spelling test tomorrow -Light and Shadow in-class field trip tomorrow from 12:50-3:15. Thank you to the parents who will be volunteering. -Sharing assembly on January 24 -Lacrosse Residency from January 27 - 30 -Drumming Residency from February 3 - 7 -We will be going on a walking field trip to "Good Companions 50 Plus Club" on February 10 from 1:00-3:00 to visit with the seniors, enjoy a snack and do a small presentation. This is to engage further in our inquiry question of "Belonging" by reaching out and getting to know o=people who live in our community. We will need 3 parent volunteers for this trip. -We will be having our class Christmas party on Thursday afternoon. You are welcome to send your child with a "special snack" for the party. Class treats are also welcome, but please make sure there is enough for 23 students. -We will be doing our Secret Santa Book Exchange on Thursday as well. This students are really looking forward to this! -Winter break starts on Friday, December 20 and students return on Tuesday, January 7.
